Center for Biological Diversity Statement on Supreme Court’s Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade
Statement from Kierán Suckling, executive director, Center for Biological Diversity:
“The decision by the now openly partisan, politically conservative flank of the Supreme Court to dismantle Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right of every person to safe and legal abortion is unacceptable. Everyone has the right to choose if and when to have children and to raise families in safe and healthy environments. Without access to abortion, we can’t achieve gender empowerment, which will continue to cause inequity in income, education and leadership roles.
Without reproductive justice there can’t be environmental justice. People, wildlife and wild places across the world are threatened by the same systems of abuse and exploitation. Pregnant people are particularly vulnerable to the harms of pollution, and sexual and reproductive healthcare are critical to help people face the challenges of the climate crisis.
The Center for Biological Diversity denounces all attempts to deny people access to sexual and reproductive healthcare. We stand in solidarity with everyone on the front lines of protecting abortion access and call on Congress and President Biden to do whatever they can to right this injustice. This includes codifying the right to abortion in federal statute and reforming the Supreme Court so that it represents the American people instead of an extremist minority.”
The Center for Biological Diversity is a national, nonprofit conservation organization with more than 1.7 million members and online activists dedicated to the protection of endangered species and wild places.
