Nov. 11 Press Conference: What Trump’s Re-Election Means for COP29

BAKU, Azerbaijan— Campaigners from U.S. and global climate advocacy organizations will address Trump’s reelection, its impacts on the COP, and a climate action roadmap at a press conference on Monday, Nov. 11, at 2:30 p.m. local time. While Trump’s re-election is a blow to climate action, there is still much that the Biden administration and global partners can do to fight for a livable planet.

Renewed climate resistance must start at COP29. The Biden administration must do everything in its power to protect the climate and our communities before Trump's January inauguration, including supporting a strong collective finance goal and putting out an ambitious draft climate target (Nationally Determined Contribution, or NDC) in early 2025 with plans for a fast, funded, and fair phaseout of fossil fuels.

The Biden administration is also facing several decisions about whether to approve permits for oil and gas projects, and these must be rejected based on science, justice, and the law.

The Global South, people of color, and low-income communities will suffer the gravest harm from Trump’s reckless policies. The global climate movement will fight for life-saving action from leading countries and state and local governments.
