U.S. Activists: Biden Climate Credibility in Glasgow Depends on Executive Action

Biden Framework, Congressional Morass Fail on Crucial Cuts to Fossil Fuels

GLASGOW— U.S. grassroots activists from the Build Back Fossil Free coalition will gather for a photo and speaking opportunity ahead of President Biden’s remarks at the U.N. climate summit today. The representatives of frontline communities and dozens of other climate justice groups will demand Biden take executive action to stop fossil fuel project approvals and declare a climate emergency, building on the historic People vs. Fossil Fuels week of action last month in Washington, D.C.

What: Photo and speaking opportunity with U.S. climate activists, including frontline community members, and banner art demanding President Biden take executive action to curb fossil fuels.

When: 12:00-12:45pm Glasgow time, Monday, Nov. 1

Where: Entrance to the Scottish Event Campus on Finnieston Street, directly outside the main COP26 Blue Zone checkpoint: https://goo.gl/maps/zAF5RVfNYWmbbEts6

Who: Representatives of grassroots U.S. climate groups affiliated with the Build Back Fossil Free coalition.

Background

After making big promises on confronting the climate emergency, Biden comes to Glasgow with even weakened climate provisions faltering in Congress. His latest Build Back Better framework offers no policy to limit fossil fuel production. The Oct. 11-15 People vs. Fossil Fuels week of action saw over 600 people arrested demanding climate action. Many of those same activists will be at the photo opportunity today.
