What: Advocates in furry jaguar and polar bear costumes will wear sandwich-board signs that read, “Do You Support Fossil Fuel Phaseout?” and “BAM! or Bust for a Just Transition.” They will ask negotiators to support a fossil fuel phaseout with full and fair funding for the Global South.
When: Wednesday, Nov. 19, 12:30-13:00 (12:30-1 p.m.) Belém time (UTC -3HRS)
Where: COP30 Blue Zone, Action Zone 3 (in front of Press Conference Room 2).
Who: Advocates from the Center for Biological Diversity will wear costumes and offer information about climate threats to wildlife. The group will have available its recent fact sheet, “The Climate Emergency: Closing in on Wildlife.” It features 10 animals from around the world threatened by climate change, including emperor penguins, harlequin toads and Asian elephants, which are at risk of extinction.
Frostpaw (the polar bear) and Libertad (the jaguar) will be available for additional interviews and photos after the action.
