Center for Biological Diversity Statement on Abortion Rights

Statement from Kierán Suckling, executive director, Center for Biological Diversity:

“The Supreme Court must act to uphold Roe v. Wade and protect the right to have an abortion. Universal access to healthcare is a basic human right. The freedom to choose when and if to have a child should never be determined by income, race or geography.

Human well-being is inseparable from the well-being of nature. People, wildlife and wild places across the world are threatened by the same systems of abuse and exploitation. So far in 2021, states have unleashed an unprecedented attack on reproductive rights, enacting the highest number of restrictions passed in a single year since Roe v. Wade. We hope the highest court in the land will uphold the constitutional right to reproductive freedom.

Social and reproductive justice are also environmental justice. The Center for Biological Diversity denounces all attempts to deny people access to safe and legal abortions. We stand in solidarity with those on the front lines of protecting the right to choose and with all of those fighting for gender equity.”

The Center for Biological Diversity is a national, nonprofit conservation organization with more than 1.7 million members and online activists dedicated to the protection of endangered species and wild places.
